In Hockey Hits on February 8, 2010 by geespotting

Ok…it’s a week late…but, here is the NHL award tracker as of the end of January:

MVP – Henrik Sedin, VANCOUVER

– Let’s face it, “Hank”, to this point in the season, has been the most consistent forward in the game. He was still putting over a point of game numbers while brother Daniel was on the sidelines.

RUNNER UP – Ryan Miller, BUFFALO

– In a month where Ilya Brygalov’s numbers dropped big time, Miller’s improved, and is the main reason why the Sabres may get a top 3 spot in the Conference.

HONORABLE MENTIONS: Alex Ovechkin, WASHINGTON & Sidney Crosby, PITTSBURGH

TOP GOALIE – Ryan Miller, BUFFALO

– Mentioned why he should be runner up for MVP, but, he leads the league in save percentage and goals against, and among the top 5 in wins.

RUNNER UP – Evgeni Nabokov, SAN JOSE

– He plays on a pretty decent team, but, is the backbone for the Sharks. His play has improved as the season has worn on.

HONORABLE MENTIONS – Martin Brodeur, NEW JERSEY & Jimmy Howard, DETROIT

TOP DEFENCEMAN – Duncan Keith, CHICAGO

– He is still top dog among d-men, and will be top dog for Canada when the Olympics start too!

RUNNER UP – Dan Boyle, SAN JOSE

– Despite an injury, he is still ranked second, and will be ready for the Games.

HONORABLE MENTIONS – Mike Green, WASHINGTON & Tomas Kaberle, TORONTO

TOP ROOKIE – Tyler Myers, BUFFALO

– He has a narrow lead in the rookie race, but, has continued to soldier on for the Sabres in this long NHL season. The Olympic break will help him for the stretch.

RUNNER UP – Matt Duchene, COLORADO

– He is now the top forward among rookies, and starting to pile up the points as the suprising Avs hang in the top 8 in the West.

HONORABLE MENTIONS – John Tavares, NEW YORK ISLANDERS & James Van Riemsdyk, PHILADLEPHIA

MOST SPORTSMANLIKE – Martin St. Louis, TAMPA BAY

– The little big man has just 8 pm’s this season, and still racking up the points for the Lightning.

RUNNER UP – Anze Kopitar, LOS ANGELES

– His play has started to pick up again after his incredible start, and takes the beat-downs, without punishing his team with the penalties.

HONORABLE MENTIONS – Brad Richards, DALLAS & Daniel Sedin, VANCOUVER

TOP DEFENSIVE FORWARD – Zach Parise, NEW JERSEY

– He tops the chart again (4th month in a row). Putting up the numbers, while keeping the numbers low on the backend.

RUNNER UP – Alex Burrows, VANCOUVER

– His name has been in the headlines a ton lately, but, his play is what should be grabbing the attention of everyone. Kills penalties, leads the team in plus/minus and scoring at will.

HONORABLE MENTIONS – Jordan Staal, PITTSBURGH & Patrick Marleau, SAN JOSE

TOP COACH – Terry Murray, LOS ANGELES

– Joe Sacco has been replaced, and for good reason. The Kings just keep on keeping on! The hottest team in the West with their biggest win streak.

RUNNER UP – Joe Sacco, COLORADO

– It is still a surprise to me that this team is still competing, and among the top 8 in the conference.

HONORABLE MENTIONS – Dave Tippett, PHOENIX & Lindy Ruff, BUFFALO

– And that wraps edition 4!
