The Cup Baby – Day Two

In Hockey Hits on April 16, 2010 by geespotting

Alright, 3 other series started last night. Here’s a run-down:

EAST CONF.

(6)  BOSTON 1  AT  (3)  BUFFALO 2.

– SABRES LEAD SERIES 1-0.

…It was like the old Adams Division days when these 2 used to meet year after year in the playoffs. The ugliness was there early, when Toni Lydman got involved with Milan Lucic. Yeah…they didn’t drop the gloves or anything (otherwise, you would be reading Lydman’s obituary),but, a little brew ha-ha was nice while enjoying an early game brew. Same old story for Buffalo as Miller Time came through (23 saves or so in the 2nd period alone), and a home ice steal in game one.

STARS 1. Ryan Miller, BUF. 2. Tuukka Rask, BOS. 3. Craig Rivet, BUF.

(8)  MONTREAL 3  AT (1) WASHINGTON  2 (OT).

– CANADIENS LEAD SERIES 1-0.

…Another stunner in game one, and another top seed going down. This time, Jaroslav Halak was the hero, making over 50 saves for the Habs in their OT win. More remarkable…Alex Ovechkin didn’t have ONE of those over 50 shots the Caps fired his way. NOT ONE SHOT for OV. Rumblin’s around D.C. say that he could be injured. He was not his usual self, but, the rest of the gang had plenty of chances in Backstrom, Semin and Green. Halak out-played Theodore, and that was the key when Thomas Plekanec ended the game in the first extra frame.

STARS 1. Jaroslav Halak, MON. 2. Jose Theodore, WAS. 3. Thomas Plekanec, MON.

WEST CONF.

(6)  LOS ANGELES  2 AT (3)  VANCOUVER 3 (OT).

– CANUCKS LEAD SERIES 1-0.

…Was hopin’ for some nastiness in this series, and wasn’t disappointed in a fast paced thriller from the Garage. A 5 minute boarding major to Alberts in the 2nd could have cost the Nucks the game, but, Bobby Lou held his guard until a little Sedin magic in the overtime frame, as Mikael Samuelsson was awarded in the slot from a Henrik pass, and a game one win. There was a ton of chirpin’ between whistles, with the usual suspects (Burrows, Bieksa, Scuderi, Brown) and a ton of after-the-whistle get-togethers. I like the look of this series in that regard, and the Kings are hopin’ for a “Quick” recovery in game two. He definitley gave them a shot in this one!

STARS 1. Mikael Samuelsson, VAN. 2. Jonathon Quick, L.A. 3. Roberto Luongo, VAN.

– 5 games on the sked tonight, including the last series to open, with my pick to win it all, Chicago. They will be hosting the Preds in that first game.
