The Cup Baby – Day 6

In Hockey Hits on April 20, 2010 by geespotting

Day 6 provided 3 games…and let me provide the wrap-up:

EAST CONF.

(1)  WASHINGTON  5  AT (8)  MONTREAL  1.

– CAPITALS LEAD SERIES 2-1.

…If the Habs were to going find a way to win this series after their game 2 collapse…they would need a big effort at home for game 3. That big effort came in the first period when Montreal had most of the chances, but, couldn’t convert on Semyon Varlamov, who got the start in place of Jose Theodore. The game turned in the 2nd when Boyd Gordon got a shortie for the Caps, and the floodgates would soon open. Only thing in this game, was the big gunners were kept silent except for this Ovie 2nd period goal:

After that, the Habs fell apart as Gomez, Plekanec and Gionta took either multiple penalties or misconducts. Montreal will need those guys on the ice if they will have any chance the rest of the series!

STARS 1. Semyon Varlamov, WAS. 2. Brooks Laich, WAS. 3. Eric Fehr, WAS.

(3)  BUFFALO  1  AT (6)  BOSTON  2.

– BRUINS LEAD SERIES 2-1.

…No Thomas Vanek for the Sabres, and it showed with their lack of offence. Despite that, they played a pretty good road game until the old vet Mark Recchi outmuscled his opponent to set up this winner:

Tuuka Rask did the rest, and the Bruins now move ahead in this series. Vanek may be back for game 4…and Marc Savard may be back before the end of the series.

STARS 1. Tuuka Rask, BOS. 2. Ryan Miller, BUF. 3. Dennis Wideman, BOS.

WEST CONF.

(3)  VANCOUVER  3  AT  (6)  LOS ANGELES  5.

– KINGS LEAD SERIES 2-1.

…The Canucks came out hitting…and hitting…and hitting. Notable blows went to the King’s Ryan Smyth and Dustin Brown, but, the Kings hung in there…and got on the power play. That was the downfall for Vancouver, as the PP clicked 3 times, and that was the difference. Oh yeah…another odd call against the Canucks with this disallowed goal:

Had that goal counted (like it should have) the Canucks would have been back in the game. In the next games of the series, Vancouver has to continue to find a way to hammer down Drew Doughty. He was the key to the King win, and their power play QB.

STARS 1. Drew Doughty, L.A. 2. Michal Handzus, L.A. 3. Mikael Samuelsson, VAN.

– 5 games for Tuesday, including the Coyotes trying to take a strangle-hold on the Wings, Ottawa looking to stay alive against Sid and the Pens, and the Sharks trying to avoid any more tricks against the Avs…and themselves!
